SIDNEY, B.C. — Green Party Leader Elizabeth May extends warm wishes to Jewish Canadians for a happy Rosh Hashanah.
This year, the “birthday of the universe” or Jewish New Year begins at sundown on the eve of Tishrei, Sunday, September 29 and continues until sunset on Tuesday, October 2.
Jews around the world get together for festive Rosh Hashanah evening meals and attend morning prayer services that include sounding of the ram’s horn (shofar). While this is a holy time, it is also a joyous occasion to welcome the new year.
“In Canada, and around the world, Jewish communities and their families celebrate this important high holiday,” said Ms. May. “The days of Rosh Hashanah are a time of celebration and reflection. I send wishes for peace, prosperity and blessing to everyone marking this special occasion.”
