(OTTAWA) – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement regarding the death of Flora MacDonald, former Member of Parliament and Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs:
“On behalf of the Green Party of Canada, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Flora MacDonald.
“As the first woman to seriously contend for the Progressive Conservative leadership and the first female Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, she was and continues to be an inspiring figure for all parliamentarians. She continues to be a personal role model for me, thanks to her dedication to Westminster Democracy and her efforts to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan.”
