The key in politics is framing the debate.
The Liberals began the policy of subsidizing oil and gas interests to the tune of $1.4 billion a year -- a policy the oil industry-loving Conservatives have continued. Over three decades its been more than $40 billion -- according to the Pembina Institute.
Why are we as taxpayers still funding oil and gas interests when oil is $140 a barrel? Why are we subsidizing the richest companies in Canada?
The Conservatives are attacking the carbon tax first proposed by the Green Party -- saying it's a tax grab.
We should call it tax cut/tax shift/carbon tax.
Step 1 we cut taxes.
Step 2 we shift taxes.
Step 3 we tax non-renewable carbon resources.
The Conservatives are trying to frame the debate as a tax grab.
We need to redifine it that Conservatives are oil and gas subsidizers.
