This week, the Green Party joins Canadians across the country in celebrating our values and what it means to be Canadian. As a nation with a strong history of welcoming immigrants, where our culture is strengthened by diversity, we must continue to celebrate our multicultural tradition.
“New Canadians have always brought important skills and energy to our diverse society,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands. “It is essential to make their arrival here as humane, efficient, and supportive as possible.”
The Green Speech from The Throne, released last week, describes a “Citizens First Agenda” that would repair our deteriorating democracy, promote justice for Canada’s Aboriginals, tackle the climate crisis effectively, restore our environmental laws and protect our health care system, all while building a strong economy and safer, fairer society. This vision will help us to realize a more livable world, where all Canadians enjoy a higher quality of life by contributing to and benefiting from a more prosperous Canada – A society of which all Canadians can be proud.
