The Green Party of Canada Stands with Federal Public Servants

OTTAWA - The Green Party of Canada stands with federal public service workers currently on strike. The people most affected by inflation are workers. They did not cause inflation. They are not the ones who should pay for it. The Treasury Board's proposal of a 9% wage increase for public servants is clearly insufficient and will not allow them to absorb the significant increase in the cost of living.

"Our public service is essential to Canada's ability to provide critical services to Canadians," said Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. "When public servants are hurting, so are all Canadians.  That's why both Green MPs stood with public servants on the picket line early in the strike action. It is in everyone's interest that the process of collective bargaining succeeds - and soon - with a fair settlement."

"It was an honor to join the picket line in Ottawa in solidarity with the more than 155,000 PSAC strikers who are fighting for fair wages, more inclusive workplaces and safe, quality jobs," said Kitchener Centre MP Mike Morrice.

"Over the past three years, Canadians have lost significant purchasing power. Wages are not keeping up with the rising cost of living," said Green Party Deputy Leader Jonathan Pedneault. "Many public service workers are living paycheque to paycheque and struggling to make ends meet. We need to set better standards."

The Green Party of Canada will support PSAC for as long as it takes. This is a fundamental issue that affects all Canadians.
